Before he was the Arbiter Thel 'Vadam, he was shipmaster Thel 'Vadamee. The "ee" was a honorific used to denote Sangheili members of the military. He lost his name honor and rank after failing to protect the first Halo ring. Thus 'Vadamee became Vadam.
